Bot. [a. Fr. amphigène, f. Gr. ἀμφί on both sides, around + -γενή-ς born, f. γεν- to produce: see -GEN1.] A synonym of THALLOGEN, applied (after Brongniart) to those Cryptogams, which grow round a central point, including Seaweeds, Lichens and Fungi.
