American author, born in Hartford, CT, on the 7th of January 1847, and graduated at Yale in 1867. He wrote several serial stories, which appeared in the Atlantic Monthly and other magazines. In 1888 he went to Europe, where he remained until 1893. Among his works are Detmold (1879); Old Mexico and Her Lost Provinces (1883); The House of a Merchant Prince (1883); Choy Susan (1884); The Golden Justice (1886); The Brown Stone Boy (1888); and A House Hunter in Europe (1893).
