a. Zool. [f. L. turbin-em (see TURBO) + -OID.] Resembling the genus Turbo or family Turbinidæ of gastropod mollusks (esp. those of tropical and subtropical seas) characterized by a thick top-shaped shell with a rounded opening closed by a calcareous operculum.
