The suggestion has also been made that totez is a verb (viz. tote, TOOT v.1), and that toez or totz ‘toes’ has been omitted before it, the reading being his toez totez oute ‘his toes peep out’: cf. his ton toteden out ‘his toes peeped out’ (P. Pl. Crede, 425).
