Bot. [mod.L., named by Ker 1805, f. Gr. τιγριδ-, variant stem of τίγρις TIGER + -IA2; so called from the spotted flowers.] Name of a genus of bulbous plants, N.O. Iridaceæ, known as Tiger-iris or Tiger-flower, esp. T. Pavonia, the Peacock Tiger-flower, a native of Mexico, Central America, and tropical S. America.
