1908.  Bayliss, Nature of Enzymes, 73. According to Morawitz there exists in circulating blood a body ‘thrombogen,’ which can be converted by a ‘thrombokinase’ present in all tissues into a precursor of the enzyme which acts upon fibrinogen to form fibrin. This precursor, or prothrombase, is changed into the active thrombase by calcium ions.
