1776. Pennant, Tour Scot., II. Addit. 13. This thanedom was transferred into the house of the Campbels.
1807. G. Chalmers, Caledonia, I. III. vii. 416. The titles of Glamis, and Cawdor, were borrowed by Boece from thanedoms of more recent origin.
1837. Skene, Highlanders Scot. (1902), II. v. 261. Thanedoms were certainly hereditary in Scotland.
