[Sp. tartana.] A covered vehicle used in Spain, esp. in Valencia.

1845. Ford, Handbk. Spain, I. 438. A Tartana, the common Valencian vehicle…. It may be compared to a Venetian gondola on wheels.
1882. Harper’s Mag., Sept., 564. In summer it is covered with tartanas, bouncing little covered waggons lined with crimson curtains.
