1864.  Gd. Words, 877/2. Skin-dressers, glovers, whitesmiths, harness-makers, &c., all dwell upon the necessity of forming in France ‘syndical chambers,’—i.e., authorised trade societies, for their respective trades…. They look to this ‘syndical chamber’ to extinguish strikes.
