1801. Roxburgh in Asiatic Res., VII. 171. Delphinus Gangeticus . Soosoo is the name it is known by amongst the Bengalese about Calcutta. They are found in great numbers in the Ganges.
1878. J. Anderson, Anat. & Zool. Res. Yunnan, I. 422. Platanista gangetica. This genus is known by different names along the Ganges, Indus, and Brahmaputra. Along the first-mentioned river, the term generally applied to it is sus, susu, or sunsar; along the Indus it is called, as a rule, bulhan.
