[Du. blaauwbok, f. blaauw blue + bok buck, he-goat.] A name given by the Dutch settlers to a large Antelope (A. leucophæa) in South Africa, on account of the effect produced by its black hide showing through its ashy-grey hair.
1786. trans. Sparrmans Voy., II. 219. The blaauw-bok is also one of the large species of gazel.
1832. Penny Cycl., II. 88/1. The Blauwbok is six feet in length.
