Min. [f. Sombrero, one of the Antilles islands + -ITE1 2 b.] A compound of phosphate of lime and phosphate of alumina, found on the island of Sombrero and other small islands in the West Indies.
1862. T. L. Phipson, in Jrnl. Chem. Soc., XV. 277. Its composition and properties prove it to be a new species, to which I have given the name sombrerite.
