Obs. [L., dim. of Gr. ἀστήρ star.] A kind of precious stone; ‘no description can better suit the asteriated crystals of sapphire, which exhibit a brilliant six-sided star in its centre’ (Westropp). Cf. ASTERIA, ASTROITE.
