1860. Worcester (citing Williams), Frog (Railroads), a grooved piece of iron placed at the junction of the rails where one track crosses another.
1889. Scott. Leader, 30 April, 5. The accident … would appear to have been caused by the train suddenly leaving the rails at a ‘frog.’
