Min. [ad. L. ampelītis, a. Gr. ἀμπελῖτις of the vine (f. ἄμπελ-ος vine; see -ITE), in ἀμπελῖτις γῆ an earth sprinkled on the vine to destroy insects.] A bituminous earth; perhaps cannel coal.
