1597. Gerard, Herbal, 1341. For want of an English name we are contented to call it the Ague tree, of his vertue in healing the Ague.
1712. trans. Pomets Hist. Drugs, I. 65. Sassafras, calld the Ague-Tree, is rather a Root than a Wood.
1753. Chambers, Cycl. Supp., Ague-Tree is a name given to sassafras, on account of its febrifuge virtue.
