Pl. -ti. [Ital. cognoscente, Latinized form of conoscente knowing man, connoisseur:L. cognōscent-em, pr. pple. of cognōscĕre to know, etc.: see COGNOSCE.] One who knows a subject thoroughly; a connoisseur: chiefly in reference to the fine arts.
