Bot. Obs. [mod.L. (proposed by Nees von Esenbeck), f. Gr. κοιν-ός common + ἄνθ-ος flower.] A name applied to a dilated floral axis destitute of calycine integuments, bearing flowers on its upper surface, as in Dorstenia and Ficus.
