[mod.L., ad. Gr. κεάνωθος a kind of thistle (Liddell and Scott).] Red-root; a genus of flowering shrubs, belonging to the order Rhamnaceæ. The species C. americanus, cultivated in English gardens, is known in America as New Jersey Tea.
