[mod.L., ad. Gr. κεάνωθος ‘a kind of thistle’ (Liddell and Scott).] Red-root; a genus of flowering shrubs, belonging to the order Rhamnaceæ. The species C. americanus, cultivated in English gardens, is known in America as ‘New Jersey Tea.’
