Obs. [f. L. calc- lime, after fluorescence; so called because typically exhibited in the lime-light.] Earlier term for CALORESCENCE.
1881. Nature, XXIV. 66. Akin gave the name of calcescence to the phenomenon of the change of non-luminous heat-rays into luminous ones (as in lime-light), but the term has been superseded by Tyndalls term calorescence.
