a. Chem. Obs. [ad. F. zoönique (Berthollet), irreg. f. Gr. ζῴον animal + -ique, -IC.] Applied to a supposed peculiar acid obtained from animal substances, afterwards shown to be impure acetic acid. Hence Zoonate [-ATE4], a salt of this acid.
