1854. Balfour, Outl. Bot., 49. The stem is so short in some plants, as the Primrose, Cowslip that they are called stemless or acaulescent.
1869. M. T. Masters, Veg. Teratol. Absolute suppression of the main axis is tantamount to the non-existence of the plant, so that the terms acaulescent, acaulosia, etc., must be considered relatively only.
